Machine-Readable Passport for Travel to the United States
Some local travel agents have informed their clients of the United States Visa Waiver Program, which stipulates that travelers must present machine-readable passports (MRP) at U.S. ports of entry in order to enter without a visa.
The authorization for Canadian citizens to travel visa-free to the United States comes from other immigration laws. The machine-readable passport requirement does not apply to Canadian citizens because Canada is not one of the 27 countries listed on the visa waiver program.
