1. I cannot login to my IEC Kompass account. Can you help me?

To login to your IEC Kompass account, please ensure that you have done the following:

  • After you have created your account, you have verified your email address.
  • If you have forgotten your password, use the "Forgot my password" link to reset your password.
  • If you are using Internet Explorer as your web browser and the Kompass login page is not loading or is timing out, please follow these steps to update your settings:
    1. Select Tools -> Internet options -> Advanced (tab).
    2. Make sure that the "Use SSL 3.0" box is selected.
    3. Click "Apply". Restart the browser. 
  • Try using a different browser (e.g. Google Chrome, Firefox, etc.)
  • If you are still experiencing login issues, please report your problem through the online issues form. An IEC representative will contact you.

2. What should I do if I forget my password?

Follow the prompts at Forgot my password displayed on the IEC Kompass login page. You can get to the login page directly from the tab on the left-side menu.

3. What is the difference between IEC Kompass and MyCIC?

The application process for the International Experience Canada initiative consists of two stages. The first stage is to assess criteria for IEC eligibility for which you must create your online account (Kompass). If you meet the eligibility criteria, we will send you a conditional acceptance letter via your Kompass account. You will then be directed how to create a secure MyCIC account in order to start the second stage of the application process.

All questions regarding immigration and work permits will not be answered through the Kompass system. For answers to these inquiries, please consult the CIC website at www.cic.gc.ca.

4. Can I have more than one application in progress?

No. You can only have one active IEC application at a time.

5. I am still waiting for my Notice of Receipt. When will I receive it?

International Experience Canada will send a "Notice of Receipt" letter to the "My Messages" section of your Kompass account within 48 hours. This letter will indicate whether or not you have received a place in the quota. If you have received a place, the letter will outline the next steps in the application process. Note: Please do not contact IEC if you submitted your application less than 48 hours ago. IEC will not respond.

6. How can I know the status of my application? How will I know if my status has changed?

To check your application status, Log in to your IEC Kompass account and look at "My Application Status". After a status change, IEC sends a letter to your Kompass account. Please monitor the “My Messages” section regularly.

7. My contact information has changed since I registered. How can I change my contact information?

Log in to your IEC Kompass account, choose "My Profile" and make the changes.

8. Do I need to open a new IEC account for 2014, or can I use the same account that I created to submit my application for 2013?

You must register and activate a new account for your 2014 application. Your account from last year is no longer active.

9. Can I submit a document that has more than one page?

Documents of more than one page need to be scanned and uploaded as one PDF file.

10. How can I view my 2013 application? How do I contact IEC regarding my 2013 application?

To log in to your 2013 application, please use the 2013 IEC log in page. Use "My Messages" to correspond with IEC. Note: It may take up to three weeks to receive the answer.

11. I’ve read about "rounds".  What are they? How do they work? What should I expect between rounds?

"Rounds" are time periods in which prospective participants can submit their applications. After the allotted spaces for the round are filled, the round is then closed. Between rounds you will not be able to create a new Kompass account, you will not be able to edit an application you previously created, and you will not be able to submit your application. When a new round is opened, you will be able to create a Kompass account and submit your new application. Information on the number of rounds and associated opening dates is posted on the IEC website.

12. How can I change the IEC category that I initially applied for?

Applicants cannot transfer or switch their application to another category. To change your IEC category, you must first withdraw from the category you initially applied to, and then you must apply to the other category if places are still available.

13.  How does the IEC waiting list work? What should I expect if I’m on the waiting list?

If your Notice of Receipt indicates that you are on the IEC waiting list, you are not yet in or out, but "on call". The purpose of the waiting list is to have a pool of applicants to draw from when a place becomes available due to refusals or withdrawals from the allocated quota. If a place becomes available in your IEC category, you will receive a letter in your Kompass account advising you about the next steps.

While you are on the IEC waiting list, it is important to check the "My Messages" section of your Kompass account regularly.

If the quota is filled and no places become available, you will receive a letter advising you that the category to which you applied is closed and IEC is no longer accepting applications from the waiting list.

14. In what order are IEC applications processed?

First, you must complete and submit your online application. If the quota has not yet been filled, you will receive a Notice of Receipt. The Notice of Receipt will inform you that you have been allocated a place and will provide instructions on how to submit your documents and payment. Once we receive your documents and payment, your IEC Eligibility Assessment will begin.

All applications are reviewed on an individual, "first-come, first-served" basis. The "first-come, first-served" criteria applies when you have submitted all your documents and paid by credit card (or uploaded proof of payment for certain countries). Partners or family members travelling together will not be taken into account when applications are considered. For information on processing times, please see Service Standard.

15. How do I withdraw my application?

If you want to withdraw your application:

  1. Click on the “Withdraw Application” button
  2. Confirm your withdrawal by entering your password.

16. What happens when I withdraw my application?

We will take your application out of the processing queue, and post a letter in your MyMessages that confirms your withdrawal.  You will have to re-submit your application to be considered for IEC 2014; which we will treat as a new application on a “first-come, first-served” basis.

If you:

  • withdraw your application, you will lose your place in line.
  • resubmit your application, you will be at the end of the line.
  • have already paid, IEC will reimburse your fee.

17. When can I create a Kompass account?

If your country has more than one category, you can create a Kompass account any time a category is open – and work on your application, even if your category is currently closed. You can only submit your application, once your category quota is open.

If your country has only one category with several rounds, you can only create a Kompass account when a quota is open. If you were able to create a Kompass account but did not submit your application before the quota closed, you can work on your application and submit it when your category quota re-opens.
