Canada – Dominica Relations
Full diplomatic relations with the Commonwealth of Dominica began when the country gained independence in 1978.
In Dominica, Canada is represented by the High Commission of Canada in Barbados.
Canada maintains close and friendly bilateral relations with Dominica.
About 3000 Canadian tourists visit Dominica annually.
With regards to Canada’s trade relationship with Dominica. Merchandise exports including fertilizers, fish and seafood, meat, machinery and wood. Imports to Canada from Dominica included soap and wax, ceramic products, machinery, precious stones and metals, electrical and electronic equipment.
There exists a Tax Information Exchange Agreement (2010) between the two countries.
Discussions are underway between Canada and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which Dominica is a member of, aimed at achieving a mutually beneficial trade agreement that provides significant economic benefits and takes into account the region's capacity constraints and vulnerabilities.
