The Consulate General of Canada in Boston is proud to support the Peabody Essex Museum's newest exhibit, Shapeshifting: Transformation in Native American Art, which opened on January 14, 2012. One of the largest Native American Art exhibitions to open in North America in more than 30 years, the exhibit features nearly 80 works from public and private collections and offers a far-reaching exploration of historic and contemporary artworks. The exhibition features pieces from several Canadian First Nations, including the Dunne-Za; Unangax; Yup’ik; Nisga’a; Haida and Cree. Two monumental contemporary Canadian installations that compellingly address familiar icons and materials- Kent Monkman's 2007 Théâtre de Cristal and Brian Jungen's 2002 Cetology- begin and end visitors' journey through the exhibition. The exhibit runs until April 29.
