Student Partners Program
Delivered in partnership with The Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC), the Student Partners Program (SPP) provides a streamlined study permit application process for students planning to attend an SPP member school.
How do I qualify?
To qualify, you must:
- Submit a Letter of Acceptance from an SPP partner school,
- Submit an IELTS test result form showing average 5.5 or higher, or a recognized Canadian High School diploma from a Canadian curriculum High School in China,
- Submit a Guaranteed Income Certificate from a participating Canadian financial institution,
- Undergo a medical examination before submitting your application, and
- Use one of the Visa Application Centres to submit your application.
Which are the designated Colleges or Universities?
Only students applying to study at participating colleges (see list below) are eligible to apply under the SPP.
Which are the participating Canadian Financial Institutions?
At present, Royal Bank of Canada, Bank of Montreal and Bank of Nova Scotia are the participating financial institutions. Please contact one of the banks below for more information on the China Students GIC.

What documents do I need to submit?
Colleges will advise potential students of specific criteria that must be met to qualify to participate in the SPP. See our Student Partners Program kit for details of the documents you need.
Will I get a study permit automatically if I choose this option?
No. The SPP provides a streamlined application process but you must still meet all requirements for a study permit, including a medical examination.
What happens if my study permit application is refused?
You will be able to apply to the bank that issued your GIC for a full refund of your GIC.
