Competition: 2012-LES-CHONQ-001

Position Title: Receptionist and Consular Assistant, LE-05 (six-month term employment with possible extension to one year and beyond)

Closing Date: May 25, 2012

Starting Annual Salary: approximately 98,107 RMB (before tax and employee’s social insurance contributions; salary is non-negotiable)

Open to: Chinese or Canadian citizens currently residing in China

Work Location: Consulate General of Canada in Chongqing, China

*Candidates should be able to attend test and/or interview in Chongqing at short notice and at own expense; successful candidate should be willing to relocate in Chongqing at own expense.

Job Summary: Under the joint supervision of the Consul General and the Mission Administration Officer, supports provision of Consular services to Canadians in Southwest China; performs receptionist function for the consulate General; provides general information to visitors and answers general enquiries on Canada; assists Mission Administration Officer in administrative duties; and performs other duties.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION

Graduation from a recognized university or equivalent educational background

LANGUAGE

High level of proficiency in English (reading, writing and speaking);High level of proficiency in Mandarin (reading, writing and speaking);

EXPERIENCE

Significant experience in dealing with the public and customer/client service;Experience in general administrative duties;Demonstrated experience working on a PC in a network environment.

ABILITIES

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing, including using tact and diplomacyAbility to manage difficult situations involving clients;Ability to maintain a pleasant disposition at all times; and establish effective and professional working relationships with clients, colleagues, and supervisors;Ability to effectively use software applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.

SECURITY/RELIABILITY

The successful applicant will be required to undergo a reliability screening and maintain “Reliability Status” as a condition of employment.

ASSET CRITERIA

Preferred standing may be given to those candidates who also meet the following:

ABILITIES:

Proficiency in French (oral and written) Ability to provide administrative support services.Ability to perform translation and interpretation from Chinese to English and vice versa.Superior IT capabilities, for example, proficiency in graphic software and/or presentation tools

EXPERIENCE:

Previous working experience in diplomatic missions or other international organizations;

KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of Canada;Knowledge of regulations pertaining to foreign citizens in China
