Required Documentation

  • Servientrega return receipt/slip (guía de retorno) in four copies, or return receipt/slip of the company of your choice. Make sure that the guide is fully completed (name & address of delivery). If you forget to fill out the return receipt/slip, the mail will be returned to the first address given on your form.

  • A passport valid for a minimum of one year and your previous passports. Photocopies of the passport are not necessary.
  • 1 passport-size photograph (2 photographs for work visa). Attach the photograph on the form.
  • Form: Fully completed (all three pages), with signature and date. Please write N/A in all spaces left blank. Spouses or parents with children younger than 18 years of age on the same application.

  • Form for additional information on family members: One sheet of additional information on family members for each spouse and/or adult. This sheet is the third page of the form.
  • Description of trip: Describe clearly and in detail your proposed visit to Canada. Include your itinerary and the names and addresses of the persons and institutions that you will be visiting. If you are studying, describe what you plan to do on your return. Failure to provide this description may lead to rejection of the application.
  • Letter of invitation from Canada: If you are visiting a company in Canada or attending a seminar or a course, you must enclose a letter from the Canadian organization which invited you. If travel expenses are being paid by the organization, this fact must be specifically mentioned in the letter of invitation. Likewise, you must enclose a letter of registration for the conference or seminar that you are attending.
  • Information concerning family members and friends in Canada:
  • To visit relatives or friends: obtain a letter of invitation sent directly to you from your host in Canada. Your host may wish to provide proof of his/her status in Canada, (for example, copy of a Canadian birth certificate or citizenship card; of a permanent resident card or temporary resident visa or permit).
  • If someone else is covering the costs of your trip, they may wish to provide evidence of their financial ability to fund the trip (for example, letter of employment, income tax Notice of Assessment, proof of savings). You should then include the invitation letter and documentation with your application.
  • Letter from the employer indicating the type of job, term of employment, salary and exact dates of departure and return from your vacation leave. This documentation must be for the applicant as well as for his/her spouse.
  • Letter from the company: if the company is paying your travel expenses, this fact must be specifically mentioned in the letter. Attach:
  • The original of the Chamber of Commerce registration issued up to one month previously.
  • Originals of the Income Declaration of the company for the past two years.
  • Originals of the bank statements of the company for the past three months. In all cases you must submit your own financial documentation. Statements issued through the internet will not be accepted.
  • Originals of bank statements for the past three months, savings accounts or CDTs which show sufficient economic solvency to support the application. Statements issued through the internet will not be accepted.
  • Proof of economic solvency of the family member who will pay for your travel expenses if you are a senior citizen or a student without economic resources, plus a letter from the family member indicating that he/she will be paying for your expenses.
  • Originals of income declarations of the past two years, with proof of pension.
  • Certificates of release and transfer of real estate issued up to one month previously.
  • Military record: The persons that have military rank (Air Force, Navy, Army or Police) must attach an official résumé issued by the Armed Forces (Hoja de Vida Oficial de las Fuerzas Armadas).

Additional Documents for Students

  • Letter of acceptance from the institution or university in Canada.
  • Certification of the college or university in Colombia indicating the type of studies carried out, time required for the diploma, vacation period and acceptance for the next semester.
  • Proof of registration and payment for the semester of the university in Colombia.
  • Medical examinations if you intend to stay longer than six months. Instructions And Physicians
  • CAQ. If you intend to stay in the province of Quebec, you will need a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ). How To Obtain a CAQ.

Additional Documents for Minors Travelling Without their Parents

  • Birth registration.
  • A certified letter in which the parents indicate that they are transferring custody of the minor to the person or organization in Canada, and a letter from this person or organization indicating that they are accepting custody of the minor for the duration of the trip.
  • A letter authorizing departure from the country for Canada, indicating the destination and time of stay in Canada.

  • CAQ if you wish to work in the province of Quebec. The employer must arrange for a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) by contacting the Government of Quebec before a temporary work permit is applied for at the Embassy. How To Obtain a CAQ.
  • LMO (Labour Market Opinion): Approval of your job offer by Human Resources and Social Development Canada (HRSDC or RHDSC). Your employer in Canada must contact this centre for information on how to proceed and for acquisition of the job confirmation.
