In Nicaragua, Canada is represented by the Embassy of Canada (Program Office) in Managua. In addition to managing the Development Cooperation Program with Nicaragua, the Program Office also provides full consular services to Canadians. The Ambassador and other Embassy services such as Trade and General Relations are located and managed from the Embassy of Canada in Costa Rica.
Nicaragua is represented in Canada by an Embassy in Washington, D.C. Nicaragua has a consular office in Whitby, Ontario.
Canada's bilateral relations with Nicaragua have matured and evolved over the years. Positive development cooperation and the increasing trade and investment relationship are central to our bilateral relations.
From 2009 to 2012, Canada contributed $46 million in Official Development Assistance to Nicaragua. Canada’s2009-2014 Nicaragua Country Strategy focuses on two development priorities: food security and sustainable economic growth through rural economic development.
Canada and Nicaragua have a healthy trade and investment relationship. In 2012, two-way merchandise trade reached $445.3 million, a 20% increase from 2011.
In February 2013, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs) Diane Ablonczy visited Nicaragua, at which time she had fruitful meetings with representatives of the Government, civil society and the business community.
