Important notice for residents of the Czech Republic

As of 21 of December, residents of the Czech Republic can apply for a temporary resident visa at the Canadian Embassy in Prague.


On this site you will find information concerning how to apply for temporary residence in Canada. For information concerning permanent residence, work and study permits, please visit the website of the Canadian Embassy in Vienna.

Processing Fees and the Application Kit

Fees are charged for the processing of temporary resident visa applications and the fees are not refunded in the event a visa is refused.

  • A single entry visa allows one entry only to Canada, during the validity of the visa.
  • A multiple entry visa allows several entries to Canada, during the validity of the visa.
  • A transit visa allows entry to Canada for a short stop-over (maximum 48 hours) en route to another country. If your return travel is also through Canada, you should request a transit visa valid for 2 entries. There are no fees for transit visas.

FAQ: What is the difference between a single-entry visa and a multiple-entry visa?

Important: The validity of a temporary resident visa can never exceed the validity of the passport.

Note: Your passport must be valid for at least one day beyond your stay in Canada.

All documents in a language other than English or French must be translated. Provide both a photocopy of the document and the translation in English or French.

How to submit your application

The processing time for all applications is 10 working days. You can submit your application, a machine readable passport and supporting documents (including original proof of fee payment) to the Canadian Embassy in Prague in the following ways:

  1. You, or an authorized third party (friend, family member, etc.), can drop off the application in person. The Visa Section in Prague can return your machine readable passport to a third party if you supply a written authorization (no notarization required) allowing the Visa Section to do so. - How to reach us.
  2. You can mail your completed application and documents to the Canadian Embassy in Prague. The Visa Section will return by mail all correspondence, including your machine readable passport, directly to you.
  3. You can send your completed application and documents to the Canadian embassy in Prague by commercial courier along with a pre-paid return service.  The Visa Section will use your pre-paid service to return your documents.  
  4. Speak to your travel agent in the Czech Republic who may offer to drop-off applications in Prague on behalf of clients. If you are a travel agent in the Czech Republic and you are interested in registering for this service, please click here.

If you need a temporary resident visa in less than 10 working days, you can apply at the Canadian Embassy in Vienna. The Visa Section of the Canadian Embassy in Vienna offers same day service for applications submitted in person.

In some cases, an additional period of 10 working days may be required. You will be advised.
