How to Update An Application

Updates are only accepted in writing, either by mail or email. Please do not send the same update multiple times or by multiple means. This creates confusion and can delay our reply.

All communications with this office must be in English or French.  Any documents not in English or French must be accompanied by a professional translation.

When submitting updated information or additional documents regarding your application, you must include the following:

  • file number, if available

    • Permanent residence applicants: Wait until you have received your file number (letter B followed by 9 digits) before contacting us, except to change your mailing address, change your e-mail address, change your immigration representative, or withdraw your application.
  • full name
  • date of birth
  • mailing address
  • email address, if you agree to email communication
  • telephone and fax number  


Updating an application for a temporary stay in Canada

If you already have an application at our office for a temporary resident (visitor) visa, study permit, or temporary work permit (other than Youth Mobility Programs), you must inform us of a:

  • change of address, including change of e-mail address
  • change of immigration representative
  • request for withdrawal of your application

To do so, please use this webform or the mailing address provided below.


Updating an application for permanent residence

If you already have an application at our office for a permanent resident visa you must inform us:

Immediately:

  • change of address, including change of e-mail address
  • request for withdrawal of your application
  • change of immigration representative

After you have received your file number (letter B followed by 9 digits):

  • birth, adoption, death, marriage, or divorce that changes information provided in your application

In order to best use our resources, we will not send confirmation that we have received your documents and updated your file.  If you would like confirmation of receipt, you can send your documents by registered mail.  Once we receive your documents, we will update your file.  You will not be contacted until it is necessary.
