Message from the Ambassador

Welcome to the website of the Embassy of Canada to Ecuador. I am very proud to represent the Canadian Government in this marvellous country in the Middle of the World.

Ecuador and Canada have a friendly history that dates back to the previous century, which includes cultural, political, cooperative and educational exchanges. Our Embassy has been continuously present in Ecuador since 1995, with its offices located in Quito. This has allowed us to strengthen our bond with the Ecuadorian Government, and Ecuadorian citizens in general. In 2015 we are celebrating 20 years in Quito. Additionally, we maintain an honorary consulate in Guayaquil. The Embassy also offers extensive services for Canadians, including: citizenship registration, passport application and assistance in emergency situations. This page is an important informational tool that enables Canadian citizens to access services offered by the Embassy of Canada in Quito.

Canada’s commitment to the Americas is a priority of our foreign policy. We are all neighbours; we share common values and priorities for our continent. Our objectives in the region are: to increase economic opportunity and strengthen democracy, fundamental liberties, security, human rights, and promote constructive and long-lasting relations.

Canada believes it is very important to deepen bilateral relations between our two countries and work together on this matter. The Embassy promotes Canadian commercial growth in Ecuador, thereby generating work and economic opportunities in the country. Likewise, we are promoting education in Canada, an issue that arouses a lot of interest, as there are approximately 400 Ecuadorian students currently studying in various educational institutions throughout Canada.

We share very important values with Ecuador, such as democracy, equality and the protection of peace and security in the region and around the world. We work with entities such as the United Nations and the Organization of American States in order to defend our principles under a framework of mutual respect.

This year, the Canadian Embassy is supporting awareness campaigns in several provinces throughout Ecuador in order to prevent adolescent pregnancies, while also providing training on transparency and accountability, and promoting rights, such as justice, freedom of speech, political participation and religious freedom.

Canada also offers technical cooperation through CESO, an organization that has recently returned to the country that works with our chambers of commerce both in Quito and Guayaquil.

I hope that all of these efforts may be reflected in a stronger friendship and more successful relationship between our two countries.

I invite you to take a look at our website, a window into Canada from Ecuador, and also to follow us on Facebook (Embassy of Canada to Ecuador) and on Twitter (@CanadaEcuador).

Thank you very much,

Marianick Tremblay
