Requirements For The Canadian Passport
Please note that the processing time for passport applications is 15 working days
(3 calendar weeks).
1. Only applicant or immediate family of applicant living at the same address can apply.
Children over 11 years of age have to sign their own application along with both parents.
For children less than 16 years old, kindly present the child’s birth certificate in English or French mentioning the parents’ names.
Both parents are required to appear in person during the process of the child’s passport application, AND at least one of the two must apply in person with their personal ID as well as the other parent’s ID bearing their photo and signature in order to apply for the child’s passport.
Any missing information will cause a delay in the processing of the application
2. Guarantor completes and signs under section 2 and signs the reverse of one photograph.
Note: The Guarantor must be a practising professional and living in Egypt. The following professions are acceptable in Egypt: medical doctor, dentist, signing officer of bank, judge, magistrate, police officer, practising lawyer or notary public. The guarantor must know the applicant for at least 2 years. The guarantor must sign ON OR AFTER the date the applicant signs the application.
Should the applicant not have an eligible guarantor in Egypt from the above list of guarantors, a Statutory declaration in lieu of guarantor form (available at the Canadian Embassy) must be completed in full. The applicant’s signature will be witnessed by an officer at the Canadian Embassy. The fee for witnessing the applicant’s signature on the in lieu of guarantor form at the Canadian Embassy is CDN $ 50.00 or L.E. 310.00. Please bring three pieces of identification with you: i.e driving licence, health card, or SIN.
3. The applicant’s previous Canadian passport
4. 2 photographs. Only pictures on WHITE background and with a NEUTRAL EXPRESSION will be accepted. Please see photo specifications attached as well as the list of suggested photographers.
5. Applicant’s proof of Canadian Citizenship (ORIGINAL Canadian birth certificate or ORIGINAL Canadian citizenship card) (*).
6. Kindly present 2 other pieces of identity showing photo and signature (applicants over 16); i.e driving licence, health card, SIN card, local ID......
7. Fees: Egyptian pounds or Canadian Dollars.
Under 3 years of age: CDN $ 20.00 - L.E. 120.00 (24-page passport)
Under 3 years of age: CDN $ 22.00 - L.E. 140.00 (48-page passport)
Children 3 years old and under get a maximum 3-year validity passport.
Between 3-15 years: CDN $ 35.00 - L.E. 220.00 (24-page passport)
Between 3-15 years: CDN $ 37.00 - L.E.230.00 (48-page passport)
16 years and over: CDN $ 100.00 - L.E. 630.00 (24-page passport)
16 years and over: CDN $ 105.00 - L.E. 660.00 (48-page passport)
Important Notices
(*) Birth certificates issued to Canadians born in the province of Quebec before January 1994 are no longer valid and are therefore no longer acceptable under any circumstances.
Applications are available at the Directeur de l'état civil website.
Concerned citizens need to apply for replacement birth certificates BEFORE a passport can be issued.
Please be advised that when exiting Egypt, all travellers must show a proof of entry stamp in the passport at the point of departure to enable exit. Without proof of entry, an exit stamp cannot be obtained and travellers will be denied exit. All Canadians who have entered the country with a Canadian passport, and who have renewed it and received a new passport while in Egypt must visit Mougamma (with the new and old passports) , Tahrir Square, Cairo to ensure that an entry stamp is transferred into the new passport.

Please note that the following photographers have been briefed on the requirements of the pictures for the canadian passport yet the onus is on the applicant to make sure that the pictures actually meet those specifications mentioned on the passport application otherwise the application will not be accepted.
