In preparation for the International Day of the Francophonie, the Canadian Embassy in Cairo organized its fourth Egyptian qualification quiz to select the top competitors for La Grande Finale de la Dictée des Amériques, an international French-language spelling contest. Over 50 competitors participated in the quiz, which for the first time included Egyptian juniors.

The top qualifying junior and senior laureates won the opportunity to represent Egypt among the 35 French-speaking countries competing in La Grande Finale held in April in Québec City.
The Egyptian competitors did not disappoint: Hana Afifi, a junior laureate attending École Oasis Internationale, became Junior Grand Champion after taking first place in the Junior B category.
Following Ms. Afifi’s return to Egypt, the Canadian Embassy in Cairo organized a reception to celebrate her victory where she was presented with a certificate of honour in the company of her parents, her school director and her fellow Egyptian finalists in the Dictée des Amériques.
Listen to Ms. Afifi speak about her experiences on the Dictée des Amériques Web site.
