Canada-EU Summit

Brussels, October 30 2016

The Canada-EU Summit took place in Brussels on 30 September 2016, attended by Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, and Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission.

Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, and Robert Fico, Prime Minister of Slovakia holding the Council rotating presidency, signed the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) at the summit.

Leaders also adopted a joint Declaration committing to strengthening international cooperation between the EU and Canada and in various international fora in several key areas such as peace, democracy, prosperity, protection of human rights and the rule of law, as well as the protection of the environment, social inclusion and cultural diversity.
