Other taxes in france

The Value Added Tax (VAT) is an indirect tax on goods and services. It ranges from 5.5 % to 20.6% and will be adjusted (possibly to 15%) to reflect the new European standards currently in the process of being harmonized. Shopkeepers post their prices with all taxes included (TTC).

As a renter in France, you will also have to pay a housing tax. This tax varies by town or commune and to reflect the rental value of your residence. It is collected once a year: the date and methods of payment are indicated on the notice mailed to you.

For more information, you may wish to consult the heading impôt, taxe et douane on the Service Public web site. (This site is available in French only)
