Working at the Embassy and the Consulates of Canada

The Embassy of Canada in Berlin currently employs about 90 people, with a further almost thirty staff members at the consulates. The staff of Canadian missions consists of two categories, Canada-based Staff (diplomats) and Locally-engaged Staff.

Canadian diplomats are recruited by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in Ottawa; they are rotational employees who have diplomatic status when posted abroad. The normal length of a posting to Germany is four years. For information on joining the Canadian Foreign Service, and writing the Foreign Service Exam, please refer to the Department of Foreign Affairs website.

Locally-engaged Staff are recruited by the Embassy. All vacant positions are staffed by competitive process. When employment opportunities occur they are posted on our website with a detailed statement of qualifications required and a current job description. Fluency in German, in addition to at least one of Canada's official languages, is a prerequisite for almost every locally-engaged position. These employment opportunities are open only to residents of Germany who have a valid work permit for Germany. We cannot consider applications which do not satisfy these conditions.

The Embassy of Canada in Germany does not offer internships at the moment.

Job opportunities are listed below, when available.
