Canada Fund for Local Initiatives

Each year the Canadian High Commission in Ghana provides funding assistance to reputable, local non-governmental organizations and community groups for small-scale, community-based initiatives through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).

In 2009-10, the Canada Fund addressed issues such as combatting the trafficking of women and children and domestic abuse. Other projects examined issues such as child labour and the development of support systems for marginalized communities such as people with mental illnesses and street children.   • African Mission Network

    African Mission Network strengthened the capacity of civil society to advocate for human rights, especially the rights domestic violence victims in Ghana.

  • Swift Aid promoted the rights of young children who are working as kayayei (head porters) on the streets of Accra.

  • Basic Needs Ghana

    Basic Needs Ghana enabled people with mental illnesses or epilepsy to advocate for their basic needs and to help support systems to cope with these maginalized members of the community.

  • Enslavement Prevention Alliance West Africa (EPAWA)

    Enslavement Prevention Alliance West Africa (EPAWA) used an education campaign in schools and youth clubs to engage and mobilize children and youth in the fight against human trafficking.
