Canada Fund for Local Initiatives
2010-11 Canada Fund Participants with High Commissioner Trudy Kernighan, the CFLI Coordinator for Ghana, Marian Tadefa-Kubabom and Ian Myles (Head of Cooperation). Each year the Canadian High Commission in Ghana provides funding assistance to reputable, local non-governmental organizations and community groups for small-scale, community-based initiatives through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).
On Dec 15, 2010, Canadian High Commissioner, HE Trudy Kernighan met with the recipients of the 2010-2011 Canada Fund for Local Initiatives. The recipients included the Advocacy and Legal Advice Center (ALAC) of the Ghana Integrity Initiative, Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Ghana Reflect Network-Pamoja, and Swift Aid. This meeting provided a chance for the High Commissioner to learn more about the projects receiving Canadian support and the people behind these projects. It was also an opportunity for the recipients to interact and identify the possibilities for networking among themselves to help in achieving the project outputs.
In 2011-12, the Canada Fund supported projects that sought to address a variety of problems including women’s low participation in governance, limited radio broadcasting of gender issues, difficulties in reporting corruption and the abuse of child labour.
