Notarial Services

Consular officials at the Canadian Embassy have the authority to perform a variety of notarial services, the most common of which are listed below. An appointment is required for most services. Fees may be payable for each service .

For further information, please refer to Legal and Notary Services on Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada's website.

For notarial services not addressed herewith, please contact the Consular Section of the Canadian Embassy in Athens by e-mail.

Affidavits, Oaths, Affirmations and Statutory Declarations

The Canadian Embassy in Athens and the Canadian Honorary Consulate in Thessaloniki can arrange to execute an affidavit or statutory declaration, administer an oath or take an affirmation. Consular fees are payable for services, and your passport or valid photo ID with signature (originals only) and an appointment are required. The document should be brought to the Embassy already prepared but unsigned.

For further information, please refer to Legal and Notary Services on Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada's website.

Authentication of Canadian Documents

As Canada is not a signatory to the Hague Apostille Convention (Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents), it is not possible to obtain an Apostille. Canadian documents which must be recognized in a foreign country must therefore be authenticated and legalized (verified as being legitimate). Authentications can be done in person (an appointment is necessary) or by mail. Please note that certain documents must first be notarized by a Canadian notary or a commissioner of oaths prior to authentication. Consular fees are payable for each service.

For information regarding the categories of Canadian documents that can be authenticated, please consult the Authentication of Documents section on the Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada's website.

Certified Copies of Documents

The Canadian Embassy in Athens and the Canadian Honorary Consulate in Thessaloniki can provide certified copies of Canadian original documents such as birth, marriage and death certificates and passports, and of foreign original documents for use in Canada. Requests for copies can be made by appointment or by mail. Fees are payable for services.
