December 15, 2013 - The Embassy of Canada in Haiti made the most of Dany Laferrière’s election to the Académie française, announced on December 12th, 2013, to highlight the strong cultural ties that unite Canada-Quebec and Haiti.

In addition to representing the Government of Canada at a number of events to commemorate this historic event, the Embassy also hosted a small reception at the official residence for Dany Laferrière.

Chargé d’affaires Vincent Le Pape took the opportunity to publicly congratulate Dany Laferrière in person on behalf of the Government of Canada. Reiterating what Prime Minister Stephen Harper said in his statement, Mr. Le Pape highlighted Mr. Laferrière’s extraordinary contribution to writing, literature and the promotion of the French language in Canada.

The evening ended with musical interludes by Jean Jean Roosevelt (gold medal-winner at the recent Francophonie Games in Nice) and Luck Mervil, to the great delight and pleasure of our guests.
