First Passports for Adults

With the introduction of the electronic passport, adult applicants may choose between a 5 or 10 year validity. The passports only contain 36 pages.

The normal processing time is 20 working days, commencing the day after the assessment of a fully completed application with supporting documentation. However, the complexity of routine verifications and security checks may lead to longer processing times.

For First Passport applications, please submit the following:

Applications may be submitted:

1.

Registered mail or Drop-in box

Service hours: 07:00 - 19:00, Monday - Friday

These services are recommended for submitting simple, standard passport renewal applications such as simplified renewal cases since there is no waiting time at our office.

For Macao Residents: Please note, you are required to enclose a return envelope (about 1/2 A4 size paper) with the applicant's name and mailing address.

2.

By online appointment

Service hours: 08:30 - 12:30, Monday - Friday

This is recommended if you wish to visit our office to submit your completed application only.

3.

By walk-in

Service hours: 08:30 - 10:30, Monday - Friday

Effective January 19th 2015, walk-in service for application submission and general enquiries will be from 8:30 to 10:30 only. Walk-in clients will be seen on a first-come-first served basis. The last ticket will be issued at 10:15.

Emergency cases, such as offloaded airline passengers and lost/stolen passports, will continue to be served beyond these hours.

If you are ready to submit a completed passport application, you are advised to use the online appointment system instead.

Note:

Since incomplete applications will not be accepted at the counter, we strongly recommend that you fully complete your application and prepare your supporting documentation prior to visiting our office. Incomplete applications submitted via mail or drop-in box will be mailed back to you within 7 working days. Should you need to travel within or close to the 20 business days, please submit your application in person to our office instead of using the mail-in or drop-in options. Thank you.

For corrections on the form, please cross out the error with a single line and make appropriate changes with your initials above or beside the error. Do not use any correct fluid.

Applications should be submitted to the nearest passport issuing office in the country in which you are residing or visiting. If you are not physically in the jurisdiction of Hong Kong or Macao, do not forward your application to our office for processing. Please contact the Canadian mission nearest you.
