Joint Statement by Ambassador Stéphane Dion, Special Envoy to the European Union and Europe and Ambassador Isabelle Poupart on the occasion of the commemoration of the Srebrenica Genocide

July 11, 2017 – Budapest, Hungary – Embassy of Canada to Hungary, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina

“Today is a day of remembrance and respect as we honour the victims of the 1995 genocide in Srebrenica. We mourn alongside the families, friends and loved ones of the victims and we pay tribute to the survivors as they continue to live with the painful memories of these tragic days.

As a member of the Peace Implementation Council and as a friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada‎ remains committed to supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina in its development as a stable, economically viable, multi-ethnic democracy. This can only be achieved through the promotion of reconciliation, tolerance and peaceful co-existence. Denial of historical facts and glorification of war criminals have no place in a democratic society.”

Stéphane Dion, Ambassador to Germany and Special Envoy to the European Union and Europe
Isabelle Poupart, Ambassador to Hungary, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina
