Procurement of a Nepalese Visa

Information regarding Nepalese visa and immigration can be found on the following Government of Nepal website.  We are unable to assist with Nepalese visas or immigration requirements.

A valid Canadian passport is required for Canadians intending to visit Nepal. The passport should be valid for at least six months beyond the date of your expected departure from the country.

A valid Nepalese Visa is also required before travelling to Nepal. This can be obtained from the Nepalese diplomatic representatives abroad nearest to you. The Visa can also be obtained at the Kathmandu airport upon arrival.  Visa is issued almost instantly on presentation of a completed form, which is available at the immigration counter, along with a passport photo, and payment of the visa fee. The visa can be extended later, as required, at the Department of Immigration. A visitor is permitted to stay in the country not more than 5 months (150 days) in one calendar year.  In the case of a lost or stolen passport, Nepalese authorities must provide clearance for an exit visa, which can take two to three days to obtain. (See below)

It is strongly recommended that you visit the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade's Consular Affairs Web site Travel Report for Nepal before making arrangements for travel to Nepal.

Replacement of a Nepalese Visa

A Canadian citizen who is issued a replacement passport in Nepal after a passport has been lost or stolen must bring the replacement passport to the Department of Immigration to receive a new visa, which is valid until the date of expiry of the visa previously issued to you. Without the visa, Nepalese authorities will not allow you to leave Nepal.

Please bear in mind that while you are in Nepal you are subject to Nepalese laws, regulations and procedures. The Immigration Office will be your best source of information and assistance regarding Nepalese visas.

The Department of Immigration is located at Kalikasthan, Kathmandu
