Defence Relations

The Defence Program in India has two principle objectives:

  • Establish and maintain effective contacts with Indian Armed Forces and the Indian Ministry of Defence.
  • Act as the point of contact for defence and security matters of interest to Canada.

The Canadian Defence Advisor is responsible for conducting the Defence Program. He has similar responsibilities towards Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to which he is cross-accredited.

An additional activity related to these countries is the administration of the Military Training Cooperation Program (MTCP) which provides selected training to individual members of the Nepalese and Bangladeshi Armed Forces, sponsored by the Canadian Department of National Defence at various establishments in Canada.

The Defence Program is conducted from the High Commission of Canada in New Delhi.
