Previous Requirement
Previously, the Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside of Canada [IMM5257B] application form available on the internet for the use of those applicants who wish to come to Canada on a temporary basis. Under previous rules, this application form could be completed by the Principal Applicant on behalf of the spouse or common-law partner, and for dependent children under 18 who may be accompanying them.
New Requirement
As of October 14, 2010, Citizenship and Immigration Canada has released a new application form (IMM5257B) for Temporary Resident Visas. Each applicant must complete the application electronically, print it and submit it along with all the other required documents in the document checklist. When submitting your completed and signed application form, be sure to include the last page (page 5 of 5) that will contain your data in barcodes
A separate application form IMM5257B must be completed and submitted for each family member, regardless of age. Each applicant 18 and over must complete and sign their own application form. Those applicants under age 18 must have a parent or guardian complete and sign an individual application form on their behalf. For example, a family of 2 adults and two young children must submit a total of 4 application forms.
Applications which include family members but fail to provide a completed and signed application form for each family member will not be processed and will be returned to the applicant.
Students and Temporary Foreign Workers:
While students and temporary foreign workers may continue to complete the application forms currently available on-line, any dependent family members accompanying them to Canada must complete and sign their own ‘Application for Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside of Canada’ [IMM5257]. This means that if a student is applying for a study permit, he will submit an application for a study permit and his wife who is accompanying him will submit a separate application for a temporary resident visa.
