Protect yourself from fraud

 Beware of fraud and scams! Government of Canada officials will NEVER:

  • ask you to deposit money into an individual’s personal bank account;
  • ask you to transfer money through a private money transfer company;
  • ask for your bank account, credit card details or other confidential information;
  • offer you a guaranteed visa, a job offer or faster processing of your application;
  • use free e-mail services such as Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo for official communications.

Useful tips:

  • Always get your visa information from official websites, do not be fooled by fake websites designed to look like official government or service delivery partner websites;
  • You don't need to hire a representative! You can get all the forms and instructions you need to apply for a visa, a permit or citizenship for free on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website;
  • Use various online search tools such as Google, MSN or Yahoo to search for more information and verify any claims;
  • Never respond to unsolicited communications made in person, by phone, letter-mail, email, courier, etc. that request your personal or financial information;
  • Remember that no one can guarantee you a job or a visa to Canada; and,
  • Report all cases of fraud and scams to the police in your jurisdiction.
