The Canadian Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia is accredited to Timor-Leste. Timor-Leste is represented in Canada by its Embassy in Washington D.C.
Since its independence in 2002, Timor-Leste has seen progress in creating new systems and institutions of governance. Canada encourages these developments and supports efforts to further democratic consolidation and institutional capacity in Timor-Leste, as well as to build future prospects for trade and investment.
Canada has been a strong supporter of the development of Timor-Leste, and continues to contribute to efforts to improve the humanitarian situation in that country, in addition to the promotion of stability, rule of law and democratic governance. Canada supports the mandate and work of the United Nations Integrated Mission to Timor-Leste (UNMIT).
Canada encourages the integration of the Government of Timor-Leste into the international community. Canada and Timor-Leste share membership in the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).
