Dual Citizenship in Indonesia

Indonesia’s Citizenship legislation and regulations permit children born to an Indonesian parent and a foreign parent to maintain citizenship of both countries until their 18th birthday.

In August 2006 the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia enacted law number 12 of the year 2006 regarding Citizenship of the Republic of Indonesia. This legislation explains the requirements for applying for dual citizenship for children. As a courtesy to Canadian Citizens, an original legislation in Bahasa Indonesia and an unofficial translation in English can be requested by emailing .
