After applying for a permanent resident travel document

How your application is processed

A visa officer will assess your application to determine whether you have met your residency obligations and whether you are still a permanent resident of Canada. The assessment will be based mainly on the information you submit. A visa officer will notify you if an interview is necessary. Even if you apply in person, an interview may not be granted.

After the visa officer has assessed your application, your passport and other original documents will be returned to you. If you sent fraudulent documents, they will not be returned.

If your application is refused, you will receive an explanation why your application was refused.

If your application is approved, you will receive a permanent resident travel document.

Using a representative

You do not need a representative to help you with your application. Whether or not you use a representative is a personal choice. Find out more about using a representative.
