The Canadian Embassy in Rome currently employs just over one hundred people. The staff of Canadian missions consists of two categories, Canada-based Staff (diplomats) and Locally-engaged Staff.
Canadian diplomats are recruited by the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ottawa; they are rotational employees who have diplomatic status when posted abroad. The normal length of a posting to Italy is four years. For information on joining the Canadian Foreign Service, and writing the Foreign Service Exam, please refer to the Department of Foreign Affairs website.
Locally-engaged Staff are recruited by the Embassy. All vacant positions are staffed by competitive process. When employment opportunities occur they are posted on our website with a detailed statement of qualifications required and a job description. Fluency in Italian, in addition to at least one of Canada's official languages, is a prerequisite for almost every locally-engaged position. These employment opportunities are open only to residents of Italy who have a valid work permit for Italy. We cannot consider applications which do not satisfy these conditions.
The Embassy accepts and views only applications that are submitted specifically in reply to posted employment opportunities.
Job opportunities are listed below, when available.
Please note that the Embassy of Canada in Rome does not assist in looking for and/or finding jobs in Canada. For details on working in Canada and obtaining permanent residency, please visit the Visa and Immigration site.
