Canada – Cayman Islands Relations

The Canadian High Commission in Kingston (Jamaica) represents Canadian interests in the Cayman Islands.  Canadians residing in the Cayman Islands can benefit from the services offered by the Honorary Consulate in George Town.  Canadians are the 3rd largest component of the foreign work force in Cayman Islands. Many are accountants or lawyers, while others are in the tourism and construction industries.

Canadian interests in the Cayman Islands are considerable.  Canadian controlled banks dominate the financial services sector and operate off-shore mutual funds out of the Cayman Islands.  Other Canadian investments are in utilities and hotel properties.

Canada has a cooperative partnership with the Cayman Islands, a reflection of the broader historical relationship between Canada and the United Kingdom.  As a British Overseas Territory, the Cayman Islands’ foreign relations, defence and internal security is the responsibility of the United Kingdom.

The Cayman Islands’ interests in Canada are represented by the British High Commission in Ottawa and the British Consulates in St. John’s, Dartmouth, Quebec, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver.
