Exhibition Announcement

The Embassy of Canada is pleased to present a joint exhibition by Canadian photographer, Yves Decoste and Japanese drawing artist, Haru Komoda.

For nearly twenty years, Montreal-born Yves Decoste has been a performer with Cirque du Soleil®, appearing in Quidam™, ZED™ and other shows. In his two-person balancing act, he thrills audiences with his amazing strength and superhuman poses. In addition to these talents, he is also an artistic photographer who creates surrealistic works that have been shown in solo exhibitions in Montreal and Tokyo.

Decoste first saw Haru Komoda's drawings at the "Young Artists Japan, Volume 3" art fair in Tokyo in 2010. He was greatly impressed by the minute detail of expression and his passion for art. The Canadian photographer realized that he and Komoda shared a common approach to art in the use of long "time frames" to create their works. In the case of Komoda, the lengthy drawing time is comparable to the extended photographic exposure time for Decoste. When he suggested to Komoda that the two might produce original art by putting their skills together, Komoda was interested. Collaboration began, and the result is this first joint exhibition in the Prince Takamado Gallery by two artists from different cultures, different generations, and different artistic fields.

In addition to fourteen collaborations, the exhibition will also feature six photographs by Decoste and eight drawings by Komoda.
