Field Trip Project

Exhibition Announcement

The Embassy of Canada is pleased to present Field Trip Project, a special art installation for Tohoku, in its Prince Takamado Gallery.

Field Trip Project is a mobile, interactive art project making use of 35 elementary school backpacks that had been sent to Japan's earthquake and tsunami-stricken area as disaster relief. As they were not needed by the area school children, they were shipped to Canada and transformed into works of art by 35 teams of artists. The backpacks were then returned to Japan's disaster area in the form of communication through art. Since last summer, 35 teams of Japanese artists have been participating in the project as well, and there are now 70 backpacks in all. This exhibition at the Embassy of Canada Prince Takamado Gallery will be the project's last stop in Japan before it crosses the Pacific Ocean again to tour Canada.
