Canada and Korea Meet at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit 2015

On November 18, Canada’s new Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, met with President Park Geun-hye on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Manila.

The two leaders discussed means of deepening the dynamic and mutually beneficial relationship that exists between their countries. They recognized the importance of the Canada – Korea strategic partnership, which has been solidified by the Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement. They also discussed other pressing bilateral and global issues, including international and regional security, and climate change.

Earlier at the Summit on November 17, the new Canadian Foreign Minister, Stéphane Dion, met with his Korean counterpart, Yun Byung-se. Media reports indicated that the two Foreign Ministers discussed ways to enhance cooperation on bilateral, regional, and global issues, and agreed to maintain and operate consultation channels at all times.
