Canada fund for local initiatives (CFLI) – Call for projects for fiscal year 2014-2015

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives is issuing a call for projects for fiscal year 2014-2015,  for proposals of no more than US$ 25,000 per project.

The Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) has identified the following priorities for the current fiscal year, ending March 31, 2015 :

  • Protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms, including religious freedom and LGBT rights;
  • Preventing sexual violence and early forced marriage;
  • Supporting democratic transition and expanded democratic participation, particularly by women and minority groups;
  • Entrenching the rule of law and combatting the destabilizing impact of crime and corruption, including through security sector capacity building;
  • Strengthening economic governance, including building free markets and an effective enabling environment for business; and
  • Delivering urgent, targeted responses to disasters or emerging crises, with a focus on small-scale humanitarian support. (Please be advised that this specific point does not include the Syrian refugee crisis.)

Organizations who wish to submit a proposal corresponding to the above priorities and within the US$ 25,000 budget range, should e-mail their submissions to Canada Fund Coordinator Nicole Maillard (, cc to by August 20th, 2014.  Projects will be reviewed by the Project Selection Committee before the end of August in order to begin project implementation in September. 

Key dates:

  • Implementation should start beginning of September
  • Feb 28, 2015: Final date for completion of normal Project Activities to allow time for final reports and payments by the end of the fiscal year.
  • March 13, 2015: Final date for recipients to submit End of Project reports to mission.
