Consul General David Fransen was honoured on May 17, 2012 for his commitment to Canadian music as he proudly hosted 160 SOCAN members and friends at this year’s celebration to honour SOCAN (the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) and its members. SOCAN is the copyright collective that administers the performing rights of more than 100,000 Canadian creators and publishers worldwide. Over the years the Consul General has enjoyed a close working relationship with SOCAN to promote their mandate and the many Canadian artists who have graced the stages here in Los Angeles including, Randy Bachman, who was also the 2011 American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Global Impact Award recipient, Leonard Cohen on the occasion of his recent album release, “Old Ideas”, and a showcase for Melanie Fiona who went on to win two Grammy’s this year.
