Fees 

Before paying the fees for an application, please note:

  • Processing fees must be paid when the application is submitted. Applications submitted without the correct fees will be returned to the applicant.
  • The payment (or receipt) must be attached to the application form.
  • Fees are subject to change at any time. Refer to the fee schedule for current rates. Just before paying, check this webpage again for up-to-date information. The visa offices do not accept fees payments in amounts other than those shown in the Fee Schedule.
  • Do not use personal cheques or credit cards: No Canadian visa office in the US accepts personal cheques or credit cards.
  • Do not send receipts as proof of payment: We do not accept the payment of fees on-line nor receipts of fees paid in Canada.
  • Do not send cash via mail – the office is not responsible for such funds.
  • Payment must be in Canadian or U.S. dollars only. No other currency will be accepted. Also, the entire fee must be submitted in one currency; do not send part of the fee in US dollars and part in Canadian dollars.
  • A receipt will be issued for each payment received.  Please keep the receipt as proof of payment.
  • Processing fees are non-refundable regardless of the outcome of the application.
  • Multiple entry visa: If you plan to visit Canada multiple times in the near future (for example on business or to visit family), you should consider applying for a multiple entry temporary resident visa. You may be granted a visa valid for up to 5 years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.

  • The Department of Citizenship and Immigration charges fees to partially recover the costof providing some of these services to the public. Since the processing fee helps defray the cost of processing your application it cannot be refunded even if your application is unsuccessful or you withdraw your application before it has been concluded.

Information regarding::

Economic class applications :

All applicants in the economic classes must submit their initial application to the Centralized Intake Office (CIO) in Canada. For more information on how to pay, visit the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website.

Family class applications:

All applications for sponsored family class members must be submitted to the Case Processing Centre in Canada. For more information on how to pay and where to submit your application, please refer to the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website.

Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF):

Applicants for permanent residence can pay the Right of Permanent Residence Fee ($490) at the time they submit their application or at a later date when requested. The processing fee must be paid at the time of application submission.

The following applicants are not required to pay the RPRF:

  • dependent children of a principal applicant or sponsor, a child to be adopted, or an orphaned brother, sister, niece, nephew or grandchild;
  • protected persons, including Convention refugees.

  • If paying in US funds, make your payment instrument payable to the Consulate General of Canada (or, if applying in Washington, to the Embassy of Canada). Payment in US funds by bank draft or certified cheque must be drawn on a bank located in the United States.
  • If paying in Canadian funds, make your payment instrument payable to the Receiver General for Canada. Payment in Canadian funds by bank draft or certified cheque must be drawn on a bank located in Canada.
  • Print your name on the back of the bank draft.
  • Please ensure that the bank does not forward your payment instrument to the visa office.
  • These financial instruments have a limited validity. Ensure that the instrument is not older than 3 months when it reaches our office.
  • If your application is received at this office without the correct receipt of payment attached, your application will be returned to you without processing.

REFUNDS

*Right of Permanent Residence Fees are Refundable:

The Right of Permanent Residence Fee is paid for the right to obtain permanent resident status in Canada. The fee is partial compensation for the many benefits and privileges that permanent resident status confers. This fee will be refunded for unsuccessful immigrant applications or for those who withdraw or otherwise abandon immigration to Canada before the visa has been used. Right of Permanent Residence Fee refunds are issued by the office that concluded your application. Right of Permanent Residence Fee refunds for all Family Class applications are issued by the Case Processing Centre in Mississauga

The Canadian Consulate General issues Right of Permanent Residence Fee refunds in the form of a U.S. dollar cheque, made payable to the principal applicant. There are no exceptions.
