On behalf of the Government of Canada I am pleased to welcome you to the website of the High Commission of Canada in Kuala Lumpur.
Canada and Malaysia have long enjoyed positive and constructive relations. Canada was one of the first countries to recognize Malaysia's independence in 1957 and to establish a High Commission in Kuala Lumpur. We have come a long way since then and today Malaysia is Canada's biggest two-way trading partner in ASEAN. Furthermore, our two countries continue to enjoy excellent cooperation and friendship in international fora and at both the government-to-government and people-to-people levels. Our engagement is broad, but at the same time, holds great promise for further growth.
Increasing trade and investment is a core objective in our relationship, building upon the successes already realized by Canadian firms and identifying new growth opportunities. Increasing people-to-people contacts with Malaysia is also a priority for the Government of Canada, including efforts to reach out to Muslim communities. Furthermore, Malaysia is a key partner in Canada's efforts to build a more secure world by countering threats to health, security and prosperity. The High Commission of Canada in Kuala Lumpur is committed to pursuing these objectives by nurturing existing linkages and striving to build stronger bonds of cooperation, interaction and understanding between our two countries.
I trust that you will find this website useful and informative. I encourage you to explore the links for detailed information on the range of services we provide. You will also find updated information on ongoing events and initiatives of interest to both Canadians and Malaysians alike in our Highlights section.
