Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security

The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and the Old Age Security (OAS) programs provide a modest base upon which Canadians can build their retirement income. Basic financial support is also available to survivors and to people who become too disabled to work and their children. These pensions and benefits are delivered by Human Resources and Social Development Canada.

Persons who have lived or worked in another country, or their surviving spouses or common-law partners may be eligible for benefits from Canada or abroad, through international social security agreements

To apply for a benefit under the CPP or OAS, some people may be required to provide landed immigrant documents. If these cannot be located, please contact the Immigration Services section of the nearest Canadian Consulate General. Immigration Services in the United States are available through Canadian offices in Buffalo, Detroit, Seattle, Los Angeles, New York, and Washington, D.C.
