A Canadian citizen visiting the United States for reasons of tourism, likely does not require a visa and may remain in the U.S. for up to six (6) months in any consecutive 12-month period. However, it the traveller is intending to engage in activities other than tourism while in the U.S., or is intending to remain longer than six (6) months, or if the traveller has ever had a criminal record in either Canada or the U.S., the traveller should check with the Embassy of the United States to determine whether he or she needs to apply for a visa before travelling to the U.S.
Persons visiting the U.S. for tourism may not work while in the country. Persons planning to study while in the U.S., should contact the school at which they plan to study as well as the U.S. Embassy to determine if a visa will be required.
