CTA-CleanTech helps bridge Canada-U.S. clean technology opportunities

Time to prepare your elevator pitches! The Canadian Trade Commissioner Service is launching a 16-week virtual educational program for Canadian companies looking to break into the U.S. market. The program will be offered twice annually: March to June 2013 and September 2013 to January 2014.

The program, Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA) CleanTech, provides participating companies with access to industry experts, financiers and entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley and New York City.  The goal is to bridge more cooperation and business opportunities between Canada and the U.S. in the area of clean technology, including:

  • Energy/water data, analysis, management and control;
  • Clean energy;
  • Consumer engagement;
  • Smart grid (data and energy storage);
  • Cleaner transportation, and
  • Green chemistry/advanced materials

Participants have the opportunity to focus on New York City, Silicon Valley, or both. Each track offers educational elements specific to their distinct markets. In particular, the program provides access to:

  • Technology demonstrations
  • Strategic partnerships with Fortune 500 companies and/or other high-growth market participants
  • New marquee customers including Fortune 500 companies, utilities, government
  • Financing opportunities including angel, venture capital, and private equity
  • A soft landing for setting up a local business development office

If that isn’t reason enough to apply, the Canadian Trade Commissioner will also provide support to participating companies including:

  • Targeted educational program tailored for CleanTech companies seeking to grow in key US markets and global markets
  • Access to mentors, advisors, and domain experts, including successful Canadian executive expatriates
  • Introductions to industry leaders, venture capitalists, potential customers, and other key resources through webinars and in-market networking events such as Mentor Days and Demo Days
  • Additional connections from the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service

This isn’t the first time that the Canadian Trade Commissioner has offered a service like this. In 2012, the CTA CleanTech initiative helped thirteen Canadian companies tap into New York City, which is increasingly taking center-stage as a hot-bed for internet-based technology entrepreneurship."

For more information on the 13 companies, please visit the Dealbook that was provided to local networks during the events:
