How to Apply for Your Temporary Resident Visa
Once you have checked that you need a temporary resident visa (transit, tourism, business, etc.), please follow these steps to submit a complete application:
- Check the processing times
Find out how long it takes to process a standard visa application at this office so that you will know how far in advance to apply. Please note that this is not a guarantee. You are urged to apply early to avoid disappointment.
- Determine how you will apply
There are two ways to apply:
- Apply online
To apply online you must have access to a scanner or camera to create electronic copies of your documents for uploading and have a valid credit card for payment. Determine your eligibility and apply online.
- Apply on paper
Please follow steps 3 to 5 below.
- Download the application kit, read the instruction guide and complete the application
The instruction guide contains important information about temporary resident visas and instructions to help you complete your application. Read the guide carefully and use the document checklist. Each person over the age of 18 must complete the FAMILY INFORMATION form [IMM 5645 ] along with the application. Your application may be returned or refused if you do not provide all the requested information, documents and fees.
- Pay the processing fee
Please refer to the fee schedule for the cost of a temporary resident visa and how to pay. Please note that the processing fee is non-refundable in all cases.
- Submit your application and supporting documents
Submit your application package (forms and supporting documents) according to the guidelines for submitting an application at this office.
All supporting documents must be submitted at the time of your application. Such documents must provide evidence of a) significant ties to your country of residence; and b) funds available for your return trip and stay in Canada.
