Canada Fund for Local Initiatives

The High Commission of Canada in New Zealand is pleased to announce a special call for proposals to expand the portfolio of Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) projects in the following countries only: Kiribati, Samoa, Tonga and Tuvalu. Applications will close on September 30, 2017. The final date for projects to be completed is February 28, 2018. An application form is attached to this email.

Within Canada's thematic priorities for international assistance, this special call for proposals will focus on supporting projects in the following key areas:

  • Climate change adaptation, mitigation and resilience
  • Blue economy and green growth

Priority will exceptionally be given to projects in the range of CAD 30,000 to CAD 100,000. Projects from government entities are welcome as long as they are local in nature and include only eligible expenses.

To be screened in, applications will need to:

  1. be submitted using a fully completed CFLI application form;
  2. include a reasonably detailed budget with eligible expenses only, in Canadian dollars;
  3. demonstrate clearly that the project can be implemented in a short timeframe (less than three months) and be completed in time for February 28, 2018.

Risks such as delays caused by the cyclone season should be taken into account in the implementation timeline and demonstrably mitigated to guarantee the timely completion of the project. First payments would likely be provided to recipients by late November.

Please note that the CFLI only provides contributions to projects, not overhead costs such as those related to the administration of an organisation, ongoing or recurring projects, large-scale construction, or purely general budgetary needs. Similarly, the CFLI cannot cover expenses related to international travel. Please refer to the application form for a detailed list of eligible and ineligible expenses. Successful applicants will need to have a bank account in the name of their organisation with one of the major banks in the South Pacific.

Please send your application form and direct any questions to the CFLI Coordinator, via post or email, at the following addresses (if emailing, please copy Lorenz.Wright@international.gc.ca):
