The Canadian International Centre for the Arctic Region has an opening for a Locally Engaged Arctic Administrative Assistant on an indeterminate basis. This is a full time position and will be available as of September 01 2010. Position is classified at LE05 with a starting salary of 333,777 NOK/Effective 1 April 2009.
The CICAR (“the Centre”) is an innovative tool in the delivery of Canadian foreign policy and is one of three regional centre pilot projects. The mandate of the Centre is to advance the international dimension of the Government of Canada’s Northern Strategy, a key Departmental priority. The Centre is based in the Canadian Embassy in Oslo but has a regional policy and program mandate across the northern circumpolar region. The Centre consists of a Director and three officers in Oslo, an officer in Washington DC (Oct 2010) and an officer in Anchorage, Alaska. The Centre is in regular contact with HQ and Missions across a variety of time zones. Organization, knowledge of upcoming Arctic-related events and developments, maintaining a wide network and regular communication are indispensable in the Centre fulfilling its mandate.
The Administrative Assistant, based in Oslo and working under the direct supervision of the Director of the CICAR, provides administrative services to the Director of the Centre and three officers; provides reception and client service for enquiries to the CICAR, works with the Director to prepare financial and other administrative reports, organizes and helps prepare official hospitality, advocacy and other Centre-related functions, assists with event and visit logistics, makes travel arrangements for CICAR Director and other Centre staff and maintains travel and hospitality budget, and performs other duties as required. The Administrative Assistant will report directly to the Director of the Centre and will play a vital role in ensuring the Centre fulfils its mandate and serves as an effective pilot for the regional centre concept.
The CICAR is a pilot project. The successful candidate will be required to relinquish their present position in order to accept a position with the Centre.
