Message from the High Commissioner
Canada is an active participant on the international stage and recognized as one of the best places in the world in which to study, travel, invest, create, work, and live. As Canada’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, I look forward to strengthening further the relationship between our two countries. Canada’s presence in Pakistan includes our High Commission in Islamabad, the Canadian Trade Office in Karachi, and our Honorary Consulates in Lahore and Karachi.
Canada looks forward to strengthening our cooperation on health, democratic governance, human rights, and pluralism. Our relationship with Pakistan spans trade and education opportunities, as well as collaboration in peace-keeping, in combatting crime and terrorism, and in supporting democratic institutions. The vibrant community of Canadians of Pakistani descent and the increasing number of Pakistani students who choose Canada for post-secondary studies contribute to the growing relationship.
Canada has helped significantly in Pakistan’s development efforts for decades, and we continue to provide humanitarian assistance in times of need. Our development program in Pakistan is focused on supporting Pakistan’s polio eradication initiative, ensuring sustainable economic growth through women’s economic empowerment, and promoting democracy by strengthening existing democratic institutions and civil society.
With the second largest population in the SAARC region, Pakistan offers serious opportunities for Canadian businesses which are actively pursuing projects in sectors such as agriculture, oil and gas, power, information and communication technologies, forestry products, railways, health and education. The High Commission in Islamabad and the Canadian Trade Office in Karachi work closely with Pakistani partners to increase competitiveness and promote commercial opportunities.
With a fast-growing and youthful population, Pakistan offers significant opportunities for Canadian businesses in a number of sectors. These include agriculture, oil and gas, power generation, information and communication technologies, forestry products, railways, health, and education, among others. Our offices assist Canadian and Pakistani clients in promoting commercial opportunities.
I encourage fellow Canadians coming to Pakistan to register with the High Commission online using the Registration of Canadians Abroad tool to receive emergency alerts and information. The Government of Canada’s travel website – Travel.gc.ca – has country-specific travel advice and advisories to assist you.
I also encourage Pakistanis wishing to visit Canada to use this website to learn about visa options. You may wish to consult our Visa Application Centre for further assistance. Please consider applying online, so that you may keep your passport with you until a final decision is made.
Pakistan is a beautiful country with a dynamic and entrepreneurial population and vibrant cultural diversity. I look forward to exploring it and to working with our Canadian and Pakistani partners to promote the prosperity, stability and safety of our two countries.
