The Embassy of Canada and the Pinoy International Human Rights Training Program Alumni Inc are inviting human rights workers, educators and advocates to apply for the 4th National Human Rights Training Program (NHRTP) to be held from November 5 – 12, 2012 in Tagaytay City.
The training program aims to bring together twenty human rights workers from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, with the goal of increasing their knowledge on human rights laws and mechanisms. Following a spiral methodology of learning, the program will discuss domestic laws, legal remedies, advocacy initiatives, and share best practices to build a culture of human rights in their respective sectors, areas and communities.
Participants leave at the end of the intensive one-week program with a plan for implementing a human rights education activity within their own organization applying their knowledge and skills learned. They may also opt to undertake their own follow-up activities such as human rights training sessions based on the NHRTP module or to develop new programs and partnerships with other human rights organizations.
The selection committee will give priority to organizations that are best able to demonstrate their commitment and effectiveness in human rights promotion and education. Consideration will also be given to gender balance.
Selected participants will be awarded bursaries to cover meals, accommodation and travel costs of the program such as plane fares and/or bus fares going to and from the training venue. Transportation expenses from residence to bus terminals/airport, and other miscellaneous costs shall be shouldered by the participants’ respective organizations as counterpart.
