Academic Relations

The Canadian Embassy assists academics who are engaged in promoting Canadian Studies in Romania and Bulgaria and administers Canadian Studies Grant Programmes.

These programmes are funded primarily by the Government of Canada and are administered by the Canadian Embassy in cooperation with the International Academic Relations Division (ACE) and the International Council for Canadian Studies. Their objective is to develop and enhance knowledge about Canada's values and culture through teaching, research and publication.

The major programs available are support to university libraries, assistance to Canadian Studies associations and centres, Faculty Enrichment and Faculty Research programs.

The Canadian Embassy also has a small discretionary budget for Canadian Studies activities such as:

  • local costs for hosting a Canadian lecturer;
  • organization of one or more conferences or lectures by a visiting Canadianist - either Canadian or European; publishing of papers or lecture texts;
  • help cover travel costs for a meeting at another university, where two academics want to organize a joint seminar, exchange their students or develop a research project;
  • preference would go to projects for participants from institutions in Central Europe, but a good project developed with an institution or centre in another country can also be considered.

Projects and applications for funding should be sent to:
