The Consulate opened its doors in 2003 as part of the Canadian government's continuing effort to increase Canada's presence in the United States, as well as to expand bilateral trade and economic relations. The Canadian Consulate in San Diego, currently headed by Consul and Trade Commissioner Lisa Stockley, is a trade office and satellite of the Consulate General of Canada in Los Angeles, California.
