Bombardier Transportation, a division of Canadian Bombardier Inc., has signed two contracts with the City of Phoenix for the operation and maintenance of an automated people mover (APM) system at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Stage one of the 2.2 mile Phoenix SkyTrain is scheduled for completion in early 2013 and is the largest new-start APM project in North America in over a decade. The new system and design will serve as a role model for other cities and airports seeking modern transit solutions.
With its strong team of local contractors, Bombardier intends to become a sustainable and viable business partner and employer in the Phoenix community, having already contracted to local firms including Weitz Construction, Suntec Concrete, and Wilson Electric Services.
