Welcome to the website of the Embassy of Canada to Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Bahrain and Oman - a source of information about Canada, our growing relationship, and the services provided by the Embassy.
The Gulf region has been designated as a priority in Canada’s Global Commerce Strategy and plays a key role in the world’s economic growth and energy supply. Canada’s political relationships and dialogue in the region are also of major importance, including with respect to security interests, global issues, and human rights concerns. This has never been more true than in the wake of the so-called Arab Spring which has brought new dynamics and new challenges to the region.
Canada and Saudi Arabia work together within a range of international organizations, including as co-members of the G20. We share many common interests, including on energy security, humanitarian and refugee affairs, counter-terrorism, and the facilitation of peaceful solutions to conflicts within the region.
Saudi Arabia is currently Canada’s second largest export market for goods in the Middle East and also a leading market for consulting/engineering and other services. Under the Global Commerce Strategy, Canada is seeking to deepen and diversify its economic relations with the Saudi Kingdom through expanded and mutually beneficial partnerships in trade, investment and science and technology exchange.
One of the landmark features of our relationship with Saudi Arabia is the presence of some 16,000 Saudi students at Canadian educational institutions. Communities across Canada have welcomed these students in the best tradition of our open, tolerant and multi-cultural society. This growing educational relationship provides a unique opportunity to learn from one another’s youth, to bridge cultural gaps, and to forge people-to-people links which will endure for years to come. An additional connection is the fact that thousands of Canadians of the Muslim faith travel to Saudi Arabia each year to perform the hajj or umrah pilgrimages to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.
As well as providing information on the services we offer to support and further develop relations between our countries, this website provides comprehensive information on the consular and passport services provided by the Embassy to Canadians living in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman and Yemen.
Valuable information regarding visa services for residents of Saudi Arabia, including university students who are interested in joining the numerous Saudi citizens currently studying in Canada, can also be accessed through this website. Visa services for the other three countries are provided by our Embassy in Abu Dhabi.
If you are a Canadian citizen living in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman or Yemen, I strongly encourage you to register with the Embassy through our online registration of Canadians abroad. This will allow us to know about your presence in the country, which will not only enable us to include you in our community outreach events, but more importantly, to contact you in the event of an emergency. To this effect, I also invite you to remain updated on our Travel Reports and Warnings.
I hope you find this website useful. We look forward to assisting you at the Embassy of Canada.
